English No Longer Requirement for New York City Taxi Drivers

★★★Summary★★★

In New York City, taxicab drivers are a largely immigrant community. And now, they are no longer required to learn and use English in daily basis.
In April, New York City’s city council approved a bill that allows tests required to get a taxi license to be given in foreign languages.
Technology like automated payment systems with credit or debit cards, GPS and navigation apps can help drivers and passengers not to have necessary conversation.

★★★Opinion★★★

I’m for this article for two reasons.

Firstly, this law will allow more immigrants to be employed in order to support themselves. If they want to get a job as a driver, he or she can take it relatively easily because it’s without a barrier of a language. In addition, this means the number of employment will increase.

Secondly, this will alleviate waste of time between the driver and passengers. The car navigation system can show us the most suitable route immediately. It doesn’t matter whether drivers are familiar with neighborhood or not. They don’t have to get much knowledge of their way around. If immigrants want to be a taxi driver, it doesn’t take much time to be one.

Therefore, I’m for this article. Nowadays, I am feeling that this world is such a lonely society but technology can help us a lot.
