I am against the idea of taking one year break before entering university schools.
First, It will give them difficulty in getting a job in the future. During a job interview, employers usually check the resume. A one-year gap record between High school and university will be a demerit.
Secondly, it will put them at a disadvantage in other aspects of life.
In japan, age highly matters. Between the same skills, but of different ages, the younger ones usually get the opportunity.
So I don’t support the idea of taking one year break before entering a university school.
